Import existing WGS

Already sequenced?Don't start again.

Import existing WGS data and use Axolotl as your ongoing genomic home.

Supported formats

Bring the files you already have.

VCF and gVCF are the easiest place to start. Aligned and raw reads would follow.

  • VCFEasiest

Variant calls. The smallest and quickest file to bring.

    Typical size ~100 MB

  • gVCFEasiest

Variant calls plus reference blocks, so gaps can be told apart from 'no variant'.

    Typical size ~1–5 GB

  • BAMLater

Aligned reads. Enables deeper reanalysis later.

    Typical size ~60–100 GB

  • CRAMLater

Compressed aligned reads. Same value as BAM, smaller.

    Typical size ~15–30 GB

  • FASTQLater

Raw sequencer reads. Needs full processing before use.

    Typical size ~60–100 GB

How import works

Four steps to a genome you control.

Example import · synthetic genome

  1. Choose data source

    Where are your genome files?
    File type

Prototype — no file is selected or uploaded.

  2. Genome validation

    Checking example-genome.GRCh38.vcf.gz (synthetic example file).

  3. Create Genome Vault

    Private by default

Only you can see it until you share.

    Encrypted

    At rest and in transit.

    Yours to export

    Download or delete any time.

Prototype — no vault or account is created.

  4. Explore, reanalyse or book
